After four highly competitive games, the semifinal matchups of the 2024 Cívis Cup have been determined: USK Prague will face Orange1 Basket Bassano, while College Borgomanero will take on the host DEAC Basketball Academy on Saturday for a spot in the final.
After a long wait, the day finally arrived: the 2024 Cívis Cup kicked off Friday morning at the Oláh Gábor Sports Hall in Debrecen. The series of clashes began with Balkan Botevgrad facing USK Prague: though the Czech team took the lead, the Bulgarians still had a chance to push the game to overtime at the end of regulation. However, the opportunity slipped away, and Prague was the first team to advance to the top four. Despite a strong start by Spartak Subotica against Orange1 Basket Bassano, the Italians surged in the second half and secured their place in the semifinals with a decisive 37-point victory. During the break, the three-point shooting competition’s qualifiers were held, with four players – Ilija Durutovic (Spartak Subotica), Tihomir Nikolov (Balkan Botevgrad), Jaagup Pajuments (Audentes Tallinn), and Matyas Krejci (USK Prague) – securing their spots for Saturday’s final showdown.
The series continued with another Italian powerhouse, College Borgomanero, taking on Estonia’s Audentes Tallinn. The Italians had little reason to worry, claiming a confident 21-point victory. Finally, the host team DEAC Basketball Academy went up against Inter Bratislava. By this time, the arena was filled with home fans, who weren’t disappointed, as the Debrecen team delivered an outstanding performance, delighting them with a 19-point victory.
The Saturday program will kick off at 10 a.m. with the lower bracket matches: first, Balkan Botevgrad will face KK Spartak Subotica, followed by a game between Audentes Tallinn and Inter Bratislava. Before the USK Prague and Orange1 Basket Bassano semifinal, the dunk contest qualifiers will be held, with a three-point shooting champion to be crowned after the Czech-Italian clash. The host team will close the day once more, as DEAC Basketball Academy battles College Borgomanero to secure a spot in Sunday’s final.
