Cívis Cup 2025 tipped off in Debrecen with a day full of action and dazzling performances. BC Prievidza overpowered host side DEAC in convincing fashion, while the Hungarian U14 national team outlasted Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade in the day’s headline clash. MAFC erupted for 117 points against Inter Bratislava, and Georgia’s Zaza Pachulia Basketball Academy rolled past the Szeklerland Team by a 54-point margin.
On Thursday evening, the wait was finally over as Cívis Cup 2025 got underway, featuring eight elite under-14 teams battling for the trophy across two venues. At the Szent Efrém Gymnasium, fans were treated to a pair of Hungary–Slovakia duels: the hosts DEAC faced Prievidza, while MAFC squared off against Inter Bratislava. Meanwhile, the main arena — the Oláh Gábor Street Sports Hall — hosted the clash between the Hungarian national team and Partizan Belgrade, followed by Zaza Pachulia BA’s meeting with the mixed-roster Szeklerland Team.
There was little suspense in the Szent Efrém Gymnasium’s matchups. DEAC fought bravely to please their home crowd, but Prievidza’s superior execution quickly decided matters — the Slovaks led by 17 after the opening quarter and cruised to a 33-point win. Those who stayed for the late game were rewarded with a true shootout: MAFC and Inter Bratislava combined for nearly 200 points in a high-tempo firefight. The Budapest side delivered a stunning offensive display, with seven players scoring in double figures. Máté Nemes stole the show, posting 21 points and 14 rebounds in just 19 minutes — his 28 efficiency rating stood as the top individual performance of the day.
The feaure matchup unfolded at the Oláh Gábor arena, where Hungary’s U14 national team took on the youth squad of storied club Partizan Belgrade. As expected, it turned into the most competitive game of the day, yet the Hungarians controlled all four quarters — winning the second by nine — and sealed a well-deserved victory. Even a monster double-double from Mihajlo Milic (22 points, 16 boards) couldn’t tilt the balance for the Serbians. The night concluded with the most one-sided affair, as Zaza Pachulia BA built a commanding lead by halftime and never looked back, dismantling the Szeklerland Team by 54.
Friday brings another four matchups, all hosted at the Oláh Gábor Street Sports Hall: Prievidza squares off with Zaza Pachulia BA, DEAC faces Szeklerland, Partizan meets MAFC, and Inter Bratislava looks to bounce back against Hungary’s national team.
