From October 23 to 26, DEAC Basketball Academy will once again host its international tournament, the Cívis Cup. This year, the four-day event will feature the U14 age group, where the DEAC cadet team will be joined by the Hungarian national team, as well as the Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade, visiting Debrecen for the first time.
After last year’s junior competition, it’s now the cadets’ turn to battle for the Cívis Cup trophy. Between October 23 and 26, eight teams will compete for the title. In Group A, the hosts DEAC will face Prievidza (Slovakia), Zaza Pachulia Basketball Academy (Georgia), and the Székely Selection. Group B consists of the Hungarian U14 national team, MAFC (Budapest), Inter Bratislava (Slovakia), and Partizan Belgrade (Serbia).
During the first three days, teams will face each other in a round-robin format within their respective groups. Based on the group standings, they will qualify for the final placement games on Sunday. Once again, there will be a three-point shooting contest, and for the first time, the schedule will also include a Skills Challenge event featuring various skill-based tasks. The final of the tournament will take place on Sunday, October 26, at 5:30 p.m.
According to Sándor Berényi, DEAC BA’s Sports Director, the tournament promises exciting and high-quality matchups:
Last year, we saw what top-tier academies can offer through players already knocking on the door of senior basketball. This year, we’ll get to see how the younger generation measures up. We’re expecting a great four days. Hosting Partizan Belgrade for the first time is a huge achievement, and Prievidza is also arriving with a squad that has already beaten some renowned clubs. The Hungarian national team will be particularly interesting to watch – and we’re happy to welcome back our former colleague and good friend, Péter Bazsik, as their head coach. Naturally, I’m most curious about our own players. I’m confident we’ll hold our ground in such a strong field, and our youngsters will certainly gain valuable experience,
said Berényi.
The Oláh Gábor Street Sports Hall will serve as the main venue for the Cívis Cup, except for the opening day’s two games – DEAC vs. Prievidza and MAFC vs. Inter Bratislava – which will be played in the Saint Ephrem Gymnasium. Entry to all games is free, and all matches will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel.
